You all know how much I love traveling to new destinations, but packing for a weeklong trip (and then moving from location to location) for a family of four can be a real source of stress, even for a Type-A, super-organized personality like myself!
Luckily, I decided to try out Quince’s Hardshell Suitcases for our summer trip to Europe.
After 10 days of lugging these suitcases from place to place, I can confidently say Quince has once again proven that high-quality, functional items (similar to brands like Monos and Beis) can be had for half the price!
RATINGS BREAKDOWN
- Quality(⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) Quince doesn’t compromise on quality. Throughout our trip, the suitcases held up incredibly well, regardless of how we (or the airlines) handled them. Plus, I discovered that each Quince suitcase undergoes durability testing before hitting the market. They’re tough, functional, and lightweight—just 6-10 pounds!
- Value [⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐] Priced at $129 to $179 (depending on size), , these suitcases pack in all the features you'd expect from a premium brand. Quince leverages its direct-to-manufacturer model to minimize costs, offering top-notch products at radical prices.
- Customer Experience [⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐] Ordering from Quince’s website was super easy, and I received delivery updates at every stage of the fulfillment process. I received my order - packaged beautifully within a branded dust bag - in 5 days!
- Design [⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐] Like all Quince products, the design is modern yet timeless—made to last. The interior is incredibly spacious, featuring a compression panel that made packing for the whole week a breeze!
AS ANY PARENT KNOWS…
Traveling with kids for a week means being prepared for anything! I knew I needed suitcases that offered both accessibilities and met my space requirements, so I went with the 21” Hardshell Carry-On (great for storing frequently accessed items like our tech items, necessities and books in the airplane overhead compartments) and the 27” Hardshell Check-In for our trip to London and Paris. Although Quince’s Hardshell suitcases come in a wide variety of fun colors, I chose black for its sleek, minimalistic design. I also really liked the new Olive color!
While aesthetics matter, what truly makes or breaks a suitcase for me is its functionality. Given the low price point of these bags ($129 for the carry-on and $179 for the check-in), I was worried the functionality and quality might not stand up to that of other premium luggage brands, like Away, Samsonite or Beis. But after using them, I can attest - these Quince suitcases are just as good, if not even better!
HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITE FEATURES...
Packing Capability + Compression Pad
The 21” Hardshell was the perfect size for a carry-on: large enough to house necessities that I didn’t want to check (2-3 days worth of extra clothes, sweaters for the plane, and all of our family’s prescription meds) while compact enough to easily fit in the overhead compartment - a luxury these days!
For the Check-In Suitcase, I was shocked at the amount of stuff I was able to fit into the 27”: by using several packing cubes, I was able to pack 10 outfits and 2 pairs of shoes (with two people sharing a suitcase) for my family. In the event that you need a bit more room, Quince also offers an Expandable version of the Hardshell as well, which provides an incremental 1” of extra expansion.
I found the compression pad particularly useful in ensuring we were getting the most out of the space, especially for consolidating the bulkier, but soft sweaters that I packed! The mesh pocket on the compression pad was also perfect for storing my son’s small, but important-for-access items, like his special animals, journal and sound machine.
Spinner Wheels
You can tell a lot about a suitcase’s quality by how easily the wheels glide across different surfaces! These 360 degree spinner wheels move silently and smoothly on concrete roads, airport carpeted floors and even cobblestone pathways, navigating back and forth without any damage. The wheels also passed a rigorous offroading test: my son riding the suitcase around our hotels like a buggy. He loves the ultra-smooth ride!
Hardshell Case
I’ve recently switched from using a softshell to hardshell case - I can’t believe it has taken me so long to make the switch! Quince’s hardshell suitcases are made of German Bayer Makrolon® polycarbonate, which means they are built to withstand rain, dust, and rough handling, but are also super light and easy to lift into the overhead compartment (6.7 pounds for the carry-on)! Even after shuffling on and off trains, planes and automobiles it held up beautifully.
The provided scratch pad was also handy for wiping off minor scuffing endured in transit.
