Over the past three years we've really invested in high-quality furniture pieces that fit our style while still being comfortable and functional for our family to live in. I also prefer having really neutral pieces of furniture so you can mix out pillows, rugs, and throws to give it different color tones and feels. When Wayfair approached me about doing a Living Room refresh, I had two things in mind that we could change out to make a big impact: rugs and window treatments.
When we were on vacation last month, the Airbnb we stayed at had the best blackout drop-down shades. My mom and I fell in love and knew we wanted to replace our blinds in the house with them. Our blinds were in pretty rough shape from the home's previous owners and having two toddlers. I also really wanted something cordless for safety reasons. I found these perfect linen ones on Wayfair's site. They were very reasonable and easy to install. I say easy, but it's super crucial you measure according to the sizing and video on the page.
Another thing that made a big impact was the rug. I actually had this same rug print in our bedroom for a while and then a smaller one layered on top of a jute rug a year ago. It's one of my favorite prints and rug styles ever. After having a brighter and neutral rug for a few months, I decided we needed something a bit moodier and with darker tones to balance the room a bit. I decided on a 9x13 so all our furniture would have legs on it.
I am so pleased with it! It's a low pile rug, meaning there is not a lot of shag. I love this because the dirt and dust don't get stuck down in the fibers and it makes it super easy to clean. Very functional for families and high-traffic areas.
One of the things I love about the blackout shades is that if it's hot outside they are very room-cooling and let no light in. When they are up, they let so much light in the room and that makes me so happy! I highly recommend them.
