Creating Your Outdoor Oasis: Q&A with Victoria of The Southern Trunk
Wayfair: Are there any color palettes or trends that are really speaking to you right now?
Victoria: I am really loving pops of color for summer with plenty of very neutral larger pieces. I am not usually one for bright colors, but I feel like summer is really the time to add some bright but muted blues, yellows, and pinks into your accent pieces and decor. Think Charleston and how bright and happy those colors make you feel.
Wayfair: What is your advice for maximizing outdoor living space for those who may only have a smaller patio or balcony?
Victoria: We have a pretty small back deck, so I find it best to not overload it with the furniture we won't use frequently. We love to eat outside, so having a table to eat at was more important to us than a big sectional or sofa set up. I try to maximize small spaces by making them incredibly functional and not filling them with a bunch of smaller pieces or knick-knacks.
Wayfair: Sunshine and blue skies have us daydreaming about outdoor dining! What are your favorite style tips for alfresco tablescapes and entertaining?
Victoria: Alfresco dining is honestly one of my favorite things ever. I will do it every meal possible when the weather corporates. I love to have plenty of shade whether that's an umbrella or sun shade and then lots of acrylic or bamboo serve ware that has a more eclectic feel to really add a pop to the table. Serve ware and napkins are what really make a tablescape shine. I also recommend some twinkly lights around your table which create an ultra-romantic and outdoor mood as the sun starts to set.
Wayfair: Which pieces do you recommend investing in for your outdoor space? Which pieces do you change out to keep your oasis fresh and on-trend?
Victoria: After years of replacing our patio furniture every few years, we decided to go with a Plywood composite style wood that would last under full sun and never rot. We will honestly probably be tired of it before it craps out on us. I feel like investing in really quality furniture pieces makes a difference and keeps your patio looking sharp. Then you can change out things like pillows, lights, plants, rugs etc to redecorate or change up things for different seasons. I've had my eye on quite a few things from Wayfair we want to add eventually, plus a few things we've already purchased. I am linking them all here for you below. Happy Patio Season!
