Tybee Island and Savannah - The Beauty of Love as it Ages

This year, we celebrated lasting love as my grandparents marked 60 years of marriage, inspiring a family getaway to Tybee Island and Savannah, GA. From sunrise walks on the beach to exploring Savannahs historic charm, the weekend reminded Ian and me to hold each other closer and cherish the beauty of Gods plan for marriage.

This past year was an unbelievably beautiful reminder of what love looks like as it ages. My parents and in-laws celebrated 25 years of marriage and my grandparents celebrated 60 years! If that is not a expression that love can last longer than the statistics show, then I don't know what is. To celebrate my grandparents and their love, my family decided to rent a house in Tybee Island to visit the beach and Savannah, GA for the weekend. Having three generations of love all under one roof for the weekend was such a great reminder of God's love for us and his plan for marriage.(photo credit to my beautiful sister, Brianna Westland, for capturing this shot)It was better than any fairytale to watch my grandparents hold hands and walk to the edge of the water. One of the days we were there, we visited downtown Savannah. It is such a quaint and historic town. Every street has some gorgeous building or elegant fountain. We ate lunch at Paula Deen's restaurant Lady and Sons, per my grandmothers request. It was delicious. Then we walked a few blocks down to River Street where everything smells of sweets and candies. We spent the afternoon strolling through the streets visiting shops, old churches, and parks filled with history and spanish moss.Tybee Island was such a perfect beach escape. We felt very secluded and were able to have the beach to ourselves. My grandfather would wake up in the morning each day to watch the sunrise, and one of those morning, I decided to wake up with him. It was something like five in the morning... But the loss of sleep was totally worth it. I will always remember sitting there with him as we both smiled as the sky changed colors. It will always be one of my favorite memories with him. This trip was such a beautiful memento for Ian and I both. To hold each other longer, to serve each other even when we are tired, to say 'I love you' more often, and through good and bad to always laugh together.
