The Back Deck

Our small back deck might not be large, but we turned it into a cozy retreat perfect for relaxing and entertaining. With clearance finds from Home Depot, jute-edged pillows, and string lights from Target, we created a versatile seating area that feels warm and inviting. A fire pit and space heater complete the setup, making it perfect for fall evenings. It may be simple, but its just right for enjoying the weather, good books, and time with friends.

We do not have a very large back deck, and though we have dreams of one day expanding, we didn't want to let it stop us from enjoying what we have now. With limited space we wanted to create a cozy place for having friends over or simply sitting outside with a glass of ice tea reading a good book. We decided to go with a seating area apposed to a dining area so that the space would be more versatile. Home Depot usually does a big clearance even at the end of the season so we waited until then to purchase a small love seat, two chairs, and a small coffee table similar to the ones that I adore in the Ballard outdoor catalogue. I decided to go with a dark beige for the cushions so that it would go with anything and not show dirt or age as badly. I topped off the seating with some jute edged pillows similar to the Pottery barn ones I found at Ross.Ian, who really loves lighting decided to add some string lights which we purchased in the outdoor section at Target. You can read how he put them up here.We added a space heater and a small fire pit for those perfect fall evenings, which were both Christmas gifts from Ian's brothers.Although it may not be the biggest or most glamorous space, it is perfect for enjoying weather and time with loved ones.
