When planning our trip, I knew that Venice was somewhere we had to visit. Many people had said there wasn't a lot to do there, but I knew it was something I needed to see. And I was so right. After a long train ride from Milan, Ian and I struggled as we got off the train with our rolling luggage (if you read our Italy Travel Guide post, this is where the nightmare of rolling luggage started,) and walked through the dark train station. We followed the crowd of people down several steps and into the sun... and this is where I lost my breath. Venice was the most beautiful city I have every been to. It was very similar to being in a Disney movie. There was music every where you went, gorgeous buildings, and romance. As you can see from below, it is one of the most colorful and beautiful old cities, not to mention, completely surrounded by water. We bought Vaporetto (water bus) tickets so that we could ride up and down the canal as much as we wanted in the two days we were there. We were totally tourists the whole trip, but I didn't care and we owned it :). After we checked into our bed and breakfast, we wandered around Piazza San Marco and did some shopping. We took our time the second day and wandered through the ally's listening to street music, drinking cappuccinos, eating seconds and thirds of gelato, and visiting more little shops. Since it was a vacation, we decided that we would eat gelato anytime we felt like it. For Ian, that meant at least three times a day! For meals, you have to eat seafood in Venice. It is known for it's delicious seafood pasta. Although the streets smell a little fishy at times, the food was delicious.
